Willow's heart stopped for a fraction of a second.
A man had appeared, and disappeared. Quick as he had come, he was gone.
The knitting fell from her hands, the needles making little sounds as they landed with her work on the floor.
She trembled a little, rubbing her temples, shaking her head a little.
"Did you see it?" she asked after several long moments, looking at Genny with frantic, pleading eyes. "Please, tell me you saw it too."
She spoke very quietly. Somehow she knew the answer to the question before she asked it.

It appeared again. It was standing in front of Willow, but giving what it was it felt more like it was hovering over her. It was still shrouded in shadow and the distortion when spoke sounded like a cup or seashell had been placed over both the girls ears.
"I said don't!" It echoed franticly.
Then it was behind Cole again. Then it was gone. All in less than a second, like the last time.

Cole looked over at Willow with an eyebrow raised. "You too?" She rested her head on her hand again. What was wrong with these two? First they interupt her time away from everyone else, then they start going on about something that isn't there.
"It would seem I'm the most sane one here."

Jarred out of her startled state by Cole's question, Genny swiftly pulled herself together. "I've never gotten the hang of being around many people," she replied, putting on a weary smile. "You know what they say about three being a crowd. But I won't withdraw from this gathering without at least acquainting myself with its participants. The name's Genny."
To Willow, Genny merely shot a knowing, affirmative look, subtly brushing her fingers over her lips as a secret sign for silence. She turned away to slump over her chair's right armrest, feigning fatigue... and was barely able to maintain silence and keep a straight face as the apparition made another fleeting appearance, her teeth clamping around her tongue close to the point of drawing blood.

"Hatter," Cole answered with a raised eyebrow at the girl, "Cole Hatter. So," She folded her arms on the arm of the sofa facing the girls and rested her head in them.
"Who put you girlies in here? Money-grubbing husband? Jealous sister? Thieving house servant?" That was some of the boring answers Cole had gotten after asking.

She saw it again.
Willow's eyes went wide as she unknown man hovered before her. He soon disappeared.
Her mouth opened to speak, but she closed it when she turned to Genny, the universal sign for silence at her lips. She nodded.
"Hatter, hm?" said Willow, leaning down to pick up her knitting, "Mad as a Hatter, I think the saying went."
She was trying to joke, lighten to mood.

Cole chuckled. She had heard that joke several times since her desent into madness. But it still managed to be funny.
"How funny it is that I have that name then get myself locked up in a nut house? They say irony is the best form of humor."

Genny closed her eyes, pausing to catch her breath as she laid her head on her arms. It was beginning to ache. At the rate things were going, the tiredness she was meant to be merely feigning might soon become real. Nearly a minute passed before an answer to Cole's question exited her lips. "An ignorant man in a robe and a powdered wig," she murmured.

"Hmmm, interesting," Cole said, "Do tell." She leaned closer toward Genny. That was a new answer to her. She hadn't met anyone in the asylum who was sent here by law.

Knit, knit, purl. Knit, knit, purl.
The stitches made the time pass, but Willow wasn't all that interested in any more conversation. She kept half an eye on the other girls, especially Genevieve.
She certainly felt as if they shared a kinship, something that was at the same time scary and yet, not so. She was hoping that they might be friends.
Knit, purl knit.
"Bugger," she muttered, and undid the stitches.
Knit, knit, purl.

A faint glimmer slowly appeared in the darkness shrouding Genny's vision - one that gradually intensified into a burning flame, then another, and another, before a veritable wall of oranges, reds and golds filled her sight. Heat from this invisible conflagration washed over her like the soothing waters of a hot spring.
The house... the fire... the smell of burning flesh... THE REVENGE.
"Sparks were flying in my head," she smiled, eyes still closed. "Fading softly, playing dead." The look on her face bordered on one of almost sensual ecstasy. "It only takes a small one to get a fire going... and soon the ones who started it can revel in its glowing." A strange gleam shone in those cerulean pools when their veils lifted once more - a gleam that faded as Genny heard Willow's muttered oath, which prompted her to stifle a laugh. So incongruous it was, coming from one so prim.

Cole thought on Genny's little nursery rhyme for a moment. Why on Earth had this girl been sent to a home for crazies? To Cole, she seemed perfectly alright in the head. "Lovely." She said, regarding the, what seemed like, impromptu poem by Genny.

(OOC: I'm really not sure how we're going to proceed with this one, in light of Willow's departure. Any ideas?)
