Estrella entered her cell with Wynter behind her. She shivered; despite the new shift and dry blanket Wynter had graciously gotten for her, she was still cold. She moved over to the pile of straw that was supposed to be her bed and sat down on it. She pulled the blanket tighter around her to try and calm her shivers. She looked up at Wynter and smiled. “Thank you again, Wynter,” she said. “If I had gotten caught…” Estrella shuddered and shut her eyes. She didn’t want to think about that.

Jinny eventually found the two girls. It wasn’t terribly difficult; her nose had led her to a cell in the dustier of the two hallways in which the girls were kept, and based on the smell, it was the residence of the younger girl. Jinny poked her head out of a crack in the corner of the room; she saw that the younger girl was sitting on the bed, a blanket wrapped around her shivering body. The older girl was standing near her, belly swollen. Jinny had seen her before; the other inmates tended to avoid her. Jinny had heard stories from the other rats, rumors that this girl was having an affair with one of the horrid doctors. Jinny hadn’t believed it until she had gotten a good look at the girl and her rounded stomach herself, and had believed from then on out. Jinny’s nose twitched; she really wanted to talk to the younger one, but she wasn’t sure if she could trust the other. She decided to wait from her hiding spot until she had deemed the girl trustworthy.

Winter had come and gone inside the Asylum but Mira still remained; her husband, Edgar, had yet to come retrieve her. The raven haired woman had been lying on the cold stone floor of Cell 2 in the horrid Ward B for weeks now, only moving when she was forced to. Mira sighed, rolling onto her back to stare at the dirty ceiling; she spun her gold wedding band round her slender finger and thought of Edgar. She wondered where he was and why he had not come to take her home yet.
Mira heard footsteps echoing off the stone walls of the corridor and quickly sat up-right in anticipation. It's Edgar, she thought, he's finally come to take me away from this horrid place! Mira's hopes were dashed, however, when her cell mate Estrella entered the room along with another inmate whom Mira had yet to meet. The distraught Mira whimpered sadly before lying back down and curling into a ball. As the woman stared at the cracked stone wall so could have sworn that she saw a pair of beady eyes staring back at her.

Jinny peered at the dark-haired girl from the shadows. She hadn’t seen the inmate before; the woman had been there before the two girls Jinny had been following had entered the room. It had been about twenty minutes since the red-haired pregnant woman and the girl with the beads had entered the cell. Wynter, the older one, had stayed with the younger girl – Estrella, Jinny had learned her name was – until she fell asleep, and then Wynter had left before Jinny could determine whether she was trustworthy or not. The little gray rat had wanted to talk to Estrella, but she didn’t want to wake her, so she turned her attention to the other inhabitant of Cell 2. Jinny noticed how she kept twisting a ring around her finger nervously. Poor thing; she obviously thought her beloved husband was coming for her, not knowing it was probably him who had had her committed to this house of horrors. Jinny decided that now was a good a time as any to make contact, and scurried from her hiding place to stand in front of the girl. “Hello, there!” Jinny said, nodding her little head in acknowledgment of the woman. She looked up at the pale face above her, nose twitching as she familiarized herself with the girl’s scent. “Allow me to introduce myself; I am Ginevra, Jinny for short, faithful member of the League of Plague Rats and friend to all inmates.” She looked the woman up and down before returning her gaze to the woman’s wan face. “What’s your name?” Jinny asked with a cock of her head.

A small rat scurried from the shadows of the cell and came to a stop before Mira. The rat introduced herself, in a voice as clear as any human, as Jinny and her small pink nose twitched as she sniffed the inmate. The raven haired woman's eyes widened at the rat. Did she just speak to me? Mira thought to herself; feeling as though she really were mad.
After a moment of silent thought, Mira decided to answer the rat, Jinny's, question: "Mira. My name is Mira," her voice was raspy from disuse. Mira swallowed hard and reached out a shaky slender hand to touch the rat; unsure if the creature was really real or if she had finally lost her mind.

Jinny had to suppress a chuckle at the woman’s confused gaze. The new inmates were always so shocked at the rats’ ability to talk. Jinny herself had been shocked the day she found she could speak to humans; the first day she and Peter arrived at the Asylum. She and Peter had been creeping through the walls, trying to get their bearings, when they heard a conversation going on in a room on the other side of the wall. Peeking through a crack, Peter and Jinny had been shocked to see a rat speaking to a young girl. The siblings had stared for awhile before another rat joined them, who had greeted them out loud, in a human voice, and informed them that they themselves could speak now that they were in the Asylum. Back in the present, Jinny’s nose twitched with pleasure as Mira gave her a pat. “Lovely to meet you, Miss Mira!” Jinny said. “And may I say, you do look lovely for being kept in such conditions. Tell me, how long ago were you committed?”

Mira ran her hand gently through the rat's surprisingly soft fur and smiled at Jinny's compliment, "Thank you Jinny.” The inmate craned her neck to look out of the barred window; the sky was filled with stars and a bright full moon. “I do not know how long I have been here,” Mira confessed. “A month or more, I guess.” Sighing sadly she whispered to herself, “I was certain that Edgar would have come for me by now...”
“How long have you been here, Jinny?” Mira asked, turning her attention back to the small, gray rat.

Estrella awoke to the sound of voices across the cell. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, wondering who was there. Looking around, she saw that Wynter had left, and that her cellmate (Mira, if memory served her), was bent over in the corner, talking. At first Estrella thought the girl must simply be loca, talking to imaginary friends, but then she heard a voice speak in reply! A high, squeaky voice that seemed to be coming from the floor. Estrella craned her neck to see who, or what, Mira was talking to, and to her surprise she saw a small gray rat standing in front of Mira, speaking with all the authority and gumption of a human! Estrella’s mouth dropped. “¿Lo qué en el nombre de Dios?”* she said.

//OOG hope its ok for me to join ^.^//
Lucille had finally been allowed come out of her cell and wonder. The hall was dark, poorly cleaned. She should have known better than to go along with any of this. She held herself tightly, uncomfortable of the stares the chasers gave her, as if she was some rabid animal, who would attack any minute now. Lucille made a face of disgust.
As she was passing one of the last cells she heard some familiar spanish words being spoken. She stood infront of Cell 2. "Hope Im not intruding" She said to the girl who was kneeling to some rodent. Then she saw another girl who by her looks, assumed she was the one who was spanish. "Espero que no las este molestando."
