Dearest Journal,
It has been so long since I have laid eyes on your pages. I thought I had lost you forever. (Thankfully not. You were just misplaced for a very long time.)
The years I have spent in this horrible place have not been kind to me. Of course, who among us HAVE they been kind to?
None of my family have visited the asylum in ages. I have only seen a few visitors at all, actually. And that's in all the time I've spent here. Something tells me the doctors are keeping visits to a minimum to keep us obedient. After all, there's more of a chance of us escaping in the chaos during visits.
I've thought of writing home every day. But who would write back? Best that I don't, lest I get my hopes up for a response.
It has been so good to touch your leathery cover and time-worn pages again. I will have to take care not to misplace you again. Writing seems to keep the demons at bay in the other inmates. Perhaps it will keep my mind off other things.
Until I write again, Lottie
